Hidden on a quiet street, on the cusp of Tribeca and SOHO, lies The Greenwich Hotel. The brainchild of Robert De Niro, this hotel is like no other in New York. From check-in to check-out there's a level of service that is without fault. Greeted by name, conversed with like that of old friends and assisted with finesse, the staff make settling in a complete pleasure.

With only eight-eight rooms and suites, there is a vibe that is more akin to a members-only club than a hotel. Each room is unique and furnished individually to suit the space. Drawing on a range of cultural influences such as hand-loomed Tibetan rugs and British leather couches, Moroccan tiles and Italian marble; it oozes an aesthetic that is sophisticated without being pretentious.

The included mini-bar is overflowing with nostalgic American candy and treats. Twizzlers, Junior Mints and cookies are the right kind of late-night indulgence for the kid at heart. The opulent marble-clad bathrooms are generous in size, finished with rustic brass joinery and lambs-ear soft robes. It's safe to say you're not wanton for much.

Breakfast is served up courtesy of in-house restaurant and New York institution Locanda Verde. Guests may choose to take it in the dining room or in the hotel's light filled garden courtyard. French-style pastries and scones are authentic and accompany eggs that are perfectly done alongside a great selection of teas and smoothies.

For those venturing out, the hotel's house car is on hand to drop you at your first stop for the day in Manhattan. Or if you choose to stay in, the hotel's award winning pool and spa Shubui will transport you to Japan with it's zen-like aesthetic, tea selection and healing treatments.

If you're inclined to splurge, consider one of the hotel's penthouses. These spaces are architecturally designed and artistically curated for the discerning traveller. The TriBeCa penthouse in particular, is a stunning oasis, complete with chef's kitchen, rooftop garden and stone walls, reminiscent of an italian villa.

Regarldess of which room you're in, there's a vibe that you're privvy to some sort of secret when staying at The Greenwich Hotel. It's a piece of heaven in an otherwise bustling city and for that, it makes it one of our New York favourites.
