You know when a space reminds you of a city? Almost like it’s captured something that really can’t be captured? That’s what Lynda Gardener’s The Apartment St Kilda did for me. Every city has its own little charm – an essence that makes it totally unique. It comes from everything – the people, the architecture, the smells, the weather.  And it evolves, like everything else in this world.

When I close my eyes and think of Melbourne, I hear the pitter-patter of rain on a tin roof, the soft murmur of people gathering, that eery yet distinct sound of trams as they turn a corner. I smell coffee beans roasting away, salt in the air as the wind begins to pick up and freshly cooked food. There’s certainly no place like home – but there’s also no place like Melbourne.

Lynda Gardener has left her signature mark on The Apartment, with a neural pallet of white and grey, layers of beautiful rustic details and plants in almost every corner of every room. The Apartment is full of Gardener’s personality, from the tiny details that have so carefully and lovingly been chosen, to the squeaky floorboards. The space is full of light and with the combination of white walls and floor, it feels open and spacious.

Gardener has created a space that feel like home by thinking of the littlest of details. Details like eye masks by the big, enticing bed, a full cookie jar for your afternoon tea, and an abundance of books and artwork to keep you entertained. You’ll even find detergent in the European laundry and plenty of wardrobe space. And in typical Melbourne form, there are even two umbrellas to use.

With a fully functioning kitchen including all the basics you need to cook a meal – there’s even muesli, tea, coffee and a plunger for the perfect slow Melbourne morning – you can easily make yourself at home in this glorious apartment in the heart of Melbourne’s St Kilda.
