Nestled on a sweeping 17 hectare estate, surrounded by umbrella pines, undulating sand dunes, rice fields and over 60km of squeaky white-sand beaches is boutique resort Sublime Comporta.

Only one hour from Lisbon, this Kiwi Collection property is abundant in wildlife and offers an immersive get-back-to-nature experience for the whole family. The hidden entrance reveals a long gravel driveway that ends at a stunning, architecturally designed communal home. Inside is a cabin like lobby with Scandinavian-style furnishings that centre around a bar with floor to ceiling windows overlooking a glimmering pool and sun beds.

Adjoining the lounge is the restaurant which serves breakfast and is an endless buffet of artisan produce showcasing some of Portugal’s best foodie delights. There are pastel de nata, fresh cheese and cured meats alongside fresh fruits, granola and fresh yoghurt alongside eggs cooked fresh to order. It's the perfect start to the day before heading off for a swim in Comporta’s turquoise waters.

Rooms are fresh and modern, with large bathrooms, free standing tubs and comfortable beds. Some come with a plunge pool on your deck, which is great in the hotter months.

Lunch is best taken in town at one of the charming seaside cafes. Fresh seafood is plentiful in this area and incredibly affordable making it a popular spot with Lisbon locals. Be sure to take a stroll in town to peruse some of the unique boutiques offering custom made fragrances, clothing and homewares.

The hotel has multiple outdoor pools for guests to enjoy in the Summer and if it’s a little cooler, Sublime Comporta has an indoor pool, sauna and steam room which can be enjoyed year round. There’s a lovely spa offering healing treatments for total relaxation and the hotel has bikes on property for guests to use to explore.

Evenings are best spent at the main house where there’s an excellent menu of Portuguese wines on offer. It’s particularly beautiful watching the sun go down over the property with a glass of wine, cuddling up on one of the lounges with a blanket.

The hotel is currently expanding, building more villas around a man made pond which will please travellers as Sublime Comporta can be booked well in advance in the popular Summer months. All in all, simply sublime.
