Checking in to Pier One is by no means a boring task. You're slipped a glass of sparkling wine and ushered outside on to a walkway to bask in the afternoon sun and take in unparalleled views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. A member of the Autograph Collection, Pier One has been recently renovated with the boutique traveller in mind.
The lobby is intimate with deep, plush chairs for an evening drink. Centred around a sexy bar, it's run by slick, personable staff who know their cocktails. The lounge flows in to the hotel's award-winning restaurant, The Gantry, which serves up modern Australian dishes and boasts stellar views over the water. Guests may choose between an a la carte or degustation menu which samples flavours of dry aged lamb, wagyu beef and pork belly. A particular stand out is the pheasant which is tender and is accompanied by chesnut and brassica. Save room for dessert because the concoction of chocolate, caramel, vanilla and coffee was polished off quickly.
For those wanting a less formal affair, Pier One has it's own burger truck docked on it's harbour. The Kerrigan serves up American style burgers, fries, tacos and brisket to order and it's damn good. It's a great spot to grab a beer in the afternoon too.
Rooms are chic, comfortable and master functionality. Dyson cooling systems flow throughout the bedroom and brand new supersonic Dyson hair dryers sit proudly in the bathroom in a leather box. They're the coolest and most powerful hairdryer we've ever had in a hotel. It's all about the view at Pier One and if you've snagged a corner balcony room, be prepared for jaw-dropping vistas of the Sydney Harbour Bridge; the perfect spot for a glass of wine on a warm evening.
