ONE & ONLY CAPE TOWN
By Rhiannon Taylor, April 2017
Cape Town's waterfront scene is a hub for artisan food and craft makers and for front row access a traveler should look no further than the One & Only which is located smack bang on the harbour. Upon arrival you're greeted to a grand foyer with an informal desk for a sit-down check-in. The foyer opens up to an opulent lounge and central bar that overlooks the resort's marina.
The bar is the hub of the resort, with expert mixologists serving up unique cocktails. Indigenous herbs and fruits are fused with locally made spirits such as gin to highlight the flavours of South Africa. The resort is also home to two outstanding restaurants. South Africa Masterchef winner Reuben Riffel heads up Reuben's, a bistro-style space with modern South African inspired menu, featuring dishes such as Springbok steak and line caught fish in broth. The extensive wine list showcases the best varieties that South Africa has to offer, with experienced sommeliers on hand.
Restaurant powerhouse, Nobu, established its first and only outlet in Africa in the resort with a menu that features Nobu classics and some new additions. With seafood sourced from Cape Town's coast, the sashimi and sushi are served up with freshness and delicacy of the highest caliber.
Rooms are elegant and understated, furnished with warm tones and a focus on comfort. Bathrooms are generous in size, with separate shower, walk in robes and free-standing baths. The biggest drawcard are the balconies, which give unparalleled views of table mountain - the perfect spot to watch sunrise with room service breakfast.
On hot days, time can be spent poolside, with ample loungers available. Designer cabanas are also available for those staying in villas or who who are looking to dine by the pool (minimum spends apply). If you're needing some spa therapy, the spa island offers a menu of world class treatments in zen-like rooms. After treatment, there are ample relaxation beds, health snacks and teas and plunge pools for ultimate rejuvenation.
