MADERA HOLLYWOOD HOTEL
By Rhiannon Taylor, January 2018
The Location: There really is no better spot in Hong Kong to set up base camp than on Hollywood Road and the Madera Hollywood Hotel has prime real estate at number 53. Set amongst the hip cafes and boutique shops (MTR is 10 minutes away) the reception is a tiny shop-front style space located via a separate entrance to the suites. Check in is swift but you'll be left carrying your own bags out of reception, on the street and back inside next door to the elevators. However given its stellar location, a pod-style hotel is really all you need when exploring bustling Hong Kong Island.
The Room: There are two suites on each floor, both of which are huge. In Hong Kong, where space is a commodity, the 70 square metre suites feel totally luxe. The decor screams, as the name suggests, Hollywood. Bright pink walls and cushions are accented with glittering silver wallpaper, rugs and couches. Prints of Marilyn Monroe adorn the walls and there's a kitchenette attached to a large living area. The bed is king-sized, lined with crisp sheets and comfy, while the bathroom is marble clad, well-lit and oversized.
Common Areas: There's a lounge which rarely gets used, but is as glitzy as the celebrity-themed suites. There's also a well equipped gym should you feel the unlikely need to put in some overtime after walking around Hong Kong. There are no dining options on site but you have health food cafes, great coffee and local noodle shops within a few blocks walk.
Good To know: Each room comes with a smartphone that you can take out with you during the day offering free local and international calls and also acts as a free wifi spot.
Rates: From $286 AUD p/n.
