HOUSEBROUCK HOUSE, NEW YORK
By Sunni Overend, October 2016
Two hours north of Manhattan, the air is dry and clean and fiery autumn colours flank the winding roads that lead to Stony Ridge – the tiny, sweet town that hosts Hasbrouck House. Once a residence and an inn, Hasbrouck House is now a boutique hotel, named after its original mid-1700’s incarnation as a country home.
Romantic narrow staircases and timeless stonework set the scene, and modern luxuries meet traditional comforts in the 17-room two-story main building. An expansive comfortable bed is cloaked in a warm, feather duvet, and Kiehl’s products adorn the bathroom. Our large pitched-ceiling suite has views in three directions through dormer windows with cushioned window seats.
Work up an appetite with a stroll to the onsite lake and orchard (accompanied by Kanute – the pup in residence) followed by a seasonal feed at Butterfield – the warm, chesterfield-furnished restaurant and bar located within Hasbrouck House.
Brass, leather and marble meet vintage-inspired wallpaper in this modern-cum-provincial luxury venture that make it a perfect base to explore the Hudson Valley and Catskills (with the help of Hasbrouck’s custom-designed local map).
