CAPE VIEW CLIFTON, CAPE TOWN
By Rhiannon Taylor, March 2017
On a spectacular coastal road in Camps Bay you'll find Cape View Clifton, a boutique guest house cum hotel, hidden in Cape Town's most exclusive cliff side real estate. Knocking on the front door can feel a little awkward and there's a long pause, making you wonder if you're at the right place. But soon enough you're buzzed in and welcomed to a cosy sitting room with twinkling sea views.
A few floors down and you're in the communal space which is set up with treats baked daily by the chef and an honesty bar. The space opens to a sea-facing deck and lap pool where you take breakfast and meals upon request. Breakfast changes daily, consisting of a table overflowing with local meats, cheeses and fruits. In addition the chefs, who are incredibly helpful and accommodating, serve up hot selections dependent on your dietary requirements. French toast, omelettes and vegan pancakes are sumptuous and feel comfortingly home-style.
Upon entering your suite, which are more akin to apartments than a typical hotel room, you're met with panoramic views of Camps Bay and it's surrounding beaches. Floor to ceiling glass windows slide open completely for access to generous sized balconies and the rooms are furnished in natural tones with comfortable, beach-chic pieces. The bathrooms come complete with double-headed rain showers, double sinks and plush robes and are stocked with Africola body products (South Africa's luxe body brand). If you're in a suite you've also got a full kitchenette if you're inclined to have a romantic night in with some local wine. Given the views, it seems the right thing to do.
